Here's where BC's EV market actually stands as of mid-2026 — the incentive picture has shifted significantly this year, and it affects how much an EV actually costs you right now.

The Incentive Picture Has Changed

BC's own CleanBC passenger vehicle rebate (previously up to $4,000 for a BEV) is currently paused, with no confirmed restart date. In its place, the federal Electric Vehicle Affordability Program (EVAP), launched February 16, 2026, offers up to $5,000 for eligible battery electric or fuel cell vehicles and up to $2,500 for eligible plug-in hybrids — available on both purchase and lease, with no household income cap.

What Still Qualifies

• Final transaction price must generally be $50,000 or less — Canadian-made EVs are exempt from this cap
• The vehicle must be made in Canada or a free-trade-agreement country
• Rebate amounts are set to decrease gradually through 2030, so 2026 offers some of the highest available savings

• The SCRAP-IT trade-in bonus for scrapping an older gas vehicle
• BC Hydro EV charger rebates for home and workplace charging installation
• Commercial and fleet EV rebates through Go Electric, including enhanced rebates for Indigenous organizations

BC has the highest per-capita EV registration rate in Canada, which means a healthy and growing supply of 2–3 year old used EVs cycling through dealerships — often at a meaningful discount to new, and sometimes still eligible for used-EV incentives when programs are active.
