How EV Rebate Eligibility Works

The federal Incentives for Zero-Emission Vehicles program offers up to $5,000 for a new battery-electric vehicle (BEV) and up to $2,500 for a new plug-in hybrid (PHEV). Eligibility generally requires the final vehicle price to be under $50,000, with higher caps applying to Canadian-made vehicles. Used vehicles and gas-powered vehicles typically do not qualify for the federal rebate.

British Columbia's own provincial rebate is currently paused, so we do not include it in the estimate. Read our detailed update on whether the BC EV rebate is still available in 2026 before counting on any provincial money.
