5 Red Flags to Check Before Buying a Repossessed Vehicle
Repossessed vehicles can be great value, but a few checks separate a good deal from an expensive mistake.
1. No Vehicle History Report
If a seller can't or won't provide a CarFax Canada report, walk away. This is non-negotiable.
2. Odometer Inconsistencies
Compare the odometer reading against service records and the history report. Mismatches are a serious red flag.
3. "As-Is" With No Inspection Allowed
Legitimate repo dealers generally allow a pre-purchase inspection. If you're blocked from having one, that's a warning sign.
4. Missing or Unclear Title/Lien Status
Confirm in writing that there's no outstanding lien before any money changes hands.
5. Pressure to Decide Immediately
Urgency tactics ("this price is only good today") are a common pressure sell technique โ a legitimate deal will still be there tomorrow.
